Dear parents and swimmers of Reddingsbrigade Amstelveen,
The end of the school year is approaching and that means the summer vacation is about to begin, also for the members of the Reddingsbrigade. But there is swimming to be done! Therefore, the next two weeks are entirely devoted to diploma swimming. An exciting period, but I am sure the students are all going to do well!
Saturday, September 14 is the first swimming lesson of the new season and we hope to see everyone again then.
Newsletter
The Lifeguard newsletter comes to you via email four times a year. Because we heard back that not everyone receives it, we printed out the newsletter once and gave it to the students. If you did not receive the newsletter by mail, we would love to hear from you. Please send an e-mail to info@rb-amstelveen.nl.
During the 2024 -2025 swimming season, the newsletter will appear on or around the following dates: September 9, December 9, April 7 and July 7. So keep an eye on your mailbox!
Saturday, July 13 - No lesson!
On Saturday, July 13, students will swim for Junior Lifeguard 1 through 4. This means that all other classes will be cancelled.
Saturday, July 20 - Free swimming
To start the vacation season off right, we invite all our students to a wonderful morning of free swimming! From 9:00 to 10:45 all students are welcome! It promises to be a pleasant start of the summer vacation.
Water rescue
Our water rescue workers have been busy the past few weeks. For example, we provided support by guarding on the water at Iron Man in Hoorn, the TRI Amsterdam, Oceanus Poeloversteek, the Children's Festival at Artis and the Poeldag in Amstelveen.
There are also a number of vigils scheduled, such as at the Water and Light Festival in Aalsmeer. All dates of the various deployments are on our website www.rb-amstelveen.nl.
Surveillance on the Surf Island
Starting July 19, our volunteer lifeguards will start monitoring at two popular swimming locations in the municipality of Aalsmeer. These are the Surfeiland near the Watertoren and the swimming jetty on the Herenweg in Kudelstaart. Our lifeguards have all received thorough training in recent months and have been training regularly.
During the summer period, our volunteers are on standby for seven full weekends
ready for all beach guests at these locations. Nice to know: the news that Reddingsbrigade Amstelveen will guard the surf island even made the news! An article appeared on NH news: https://www.nhnieuws.nl/nieuws/335406/inzet-reddingsbrigade-bij-aalsmeerse-zwemlocaties-moet-meer-zwemdoden-voorkomen. There was also a nice item on Hart van Nederland: https://www.hartvannederland.nl/algemeen-nieuws/artikelen/reddingsbrigade-stoomt-nieuwe-strandwachten-klaar-voor-de-zomer.
Examination of junior lifeguard, lifeguard and skipper
Last Sunday, seven members took exams for junior lifeguard, lifeguard and skipper. They all passed! Congratulations!
Help from photographer requested!
We are looking for a photographer to take some nice pictures for us of our members. One time at swimming lessons and during surveillance at the Surf Island. These pictures will be used for the website, socials and any other publications. If you have time and interest in helping us with this, please let us know. Please contact Marlies via marlies.sienot@rb-amstelveen.nl.
Students who may be photographed wanted
Because we never take pictures of our students who are in the pool without permission, we are looking for a few students that we would be allowed to photograph. The photos will be taken during a swim lesson and will be used for our website, social media and any other displays. Please note that we never photograph them in swimwear, only during class when they swim with clothes on.
If you do not mind your child being photographed for these expressions, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Marlies via marlies.sienot@rb-amstelveen.nl.
