Newsletter November 2024

Updated: 2 days ago

Dear parents and swimmers of the Reddingsbrigade Amstelveen,

It’s been a flying start to the swimming season! Each week, we’re welcoming more and more students who want to improve their swimming skills, and we truly enjoy it every time. Soon, the first swimmers of the season will be taking their lifesaver exams, which promises to be an exciting morning. But there’s more on the agenda!

Volunteers

On 7th December, it’s National Volunteers Day, and we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to express how proud we are of our instructors and water rescue volunteers. Did you know that all of them are volunteers? Every Saturday morning, they’re ready to assist all the students eager to learn how to swim. Our volunteers are also active as water rescue personnel at events. True stars!

Would you like to help with swimming lessons?

Is it a bit too warm on the stands? We can imagine! But we have the solution! We’re looking for parents who would enjoy helping with the lessons. You’ll need to have at least your A and B swimming certificates. We will apply for a VOG (Certificate of Conduct) for you. Any teaching experience is a bonus. Would you like to be active on Saturday mornings instead of sitting on the warm stands? Please contact Arend or Linda at info@rb-amstelveen.nl.

Special guest at the pool

On the morning of Saturday 30th November, we’ll be having a very special guest at the pool. The lesson will be a bit different that day. We’re expecting all students at 9:00 am for a fun morning of free swimming. We’ve planned some fun water games, and Sinterklaas has promised to make an appearance! Parents and siblings are welcome to join in the fun from the stands. The morning will run until 10:30 am.

Committees

As the board, we’re very happy that people outside the board want to help. Many hands make light work, and that’s why we’ve chosen to work with ‘committees’. The committees are as follows: Water Rescue Committee, Exam Committee, Saturday Instruction Committee, and the Party Committee.

When looking for committee members, we’ve focused on those who are keen to help and who have specific qualities we can make use of. We’ve also followed the guidelines provided in our statutes regarding this. For example, family members of board members may sit on committees (with the exception of the Finance and Continuity Committees). Additionally, we’ve decided that, with the exception of the Finance and Continuity Committees, a board member will be involved in each committee.

We’re currently in the process of formalising some matters and providing information about access to privacy-sensitive data. We’re incredibly grateful for all the help we receive, because keeping our association running is something we do together!

New pool schedule

From January onwards, we’ll have a new pool schedule. Instructor Linda will be temporarily unavailable, so we’ve had to make some adjustments to ensure we have enough backup. The new schedule will be as follows:

Help from a photographer wanted!

We’ve asked before, but unfortunately without success, so we’ll try again. We’re looking for a photographer who would be willing to take some great photos of our members. We’d like some photos during swimming lessons and possibly during a water rescue operation. These photos will be used on our website, social media, and other communications. If you’re available and interested in helping, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Marlies at marlies.sienot@rb-amstelveen.nl.

Students who may be photographed

We’ve received a few sign-ups already – thank you so much! But we could still use a few more. So once again, we’re asking: Since we never photograph our students in the pool without permission, we’re looking for a few students who would be happy to be photographed. The photos will be taken during a swimming lesson and used for our website, social media, and other communications.

Please note: These photos will never be taken in swimwear, only when the students are swimming in clothing. If you’re happy for your child to be photographed for these purposes, please let us know. Contact Marlies at marlies.sienot@rb-amstelveen.nl.
